Balance Disorders

There are more than 350 medical conditions that cause unsteadiness, vertigo, dizziness, and giddiness.

But no matter the cause, if these conditions are left undiagnosed and untreated, they can:

  • affect everyday activities that you once took for granted
  • make you feel anxious, depressed and mentally fatigued
  • impair your memory and concentration
  • leave you feeling tired and worn out

Unlike other doctors, such as ENT specialists and Neurologists, who see patients with balance problems as part of the whole range of other ENT and Neurological conditions, Dr Surenthiran specialises exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of all inner ear and brain conditions causing dizziness and giddiness and has the necessary post-graduate training, in-depth knowledge, expertise, and experience.

He has seen on average 60 to 70 patients a week with balance disorders, hearing loss and tinnitus in a tertiary Neuro-otology / Balance Centre setting and is regularly referred patients from around the UK and from all over the world.

At the end of the first consultation with him, you can expect:

  1. To have a basic understanding of balance function and be able to understand why you are feeling the way you are because of your balance problem
  2. To be given a diagnosis or likely diagnosis of the medical condition causing your dizziness / balance problems.
  3. To either start initial treatment or for arrangements for treatment to be in place.
  4. Although no one will be able to give you an exact idea as to how you will specifically progress he should be able to give you a broad overview of how you are likely to progress with treatment.

Unlike other healthcare professionals who see patients with balance problems such as:

a. ENT doctors who see patients with the ear, nose and throat conditions but do not specifically or solely focus on inner ear balance organ disorders or with any brain conditions causing balance problems

OR

b. Neurology doctors who deal with the range of neurological conditions, but do not specifically and solely focus on those causing balance problems and do not deal with inner ear balance organ problems

Dr Surenthiran specialises exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of all inner ear and brain conditions causing dizziness and giddiness and has the post-graduate training, in-depth knowledge, expertise and experience to do so. He has seen on average 60 to 70 patients a week with balance disorders as well as those with complex hearing loss and tinnitus in a tertiary Neuro-otology / Balance Centre setting and is regularly referred patients not only from around the UK but also from all over the world.
